RECOURCES: VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

First newsletter on LGBTI diversity in vocational education

versión española » - version Française »
>> 12 September 2019 - Today, the SENSE-partnership published the first newsletter on how to integrate LGBTI issues in vocational training institutions. In education about LGBTI issues, vocational training is often neglected because it is often regarded as “technical”. However, in most jobs, soft skills like client or customer friendliness and being flexible and mindful are key 21st century skills everybody needs. MATERIALS: MAUAL PROSOCIALITY

Manual on educating prosociality in high schools published

versión española » - version Française »
> September 4, 2019 - The European ALICE-project published a manual on how to educate about prosociality in high schools. Prosociality focuses on a positive approach rather than an "anti" strategy. The manual explain in depth how schools can implement such an approach, in the school and with the wider community. This was even shown in the ALICE-partnership that produced the manual, where the diversity chapter has to be removed from the manual after protests of a partner from a more conservative country.

Edu-Diverse states that the neoliberal Dutch policy means that schools regulate themselves and that the possibilities for individuals or social organizations to help improve the quality of antibullying policies at school are very limited. Still, it suggests some ways to improve the situation.

RESOURCES: DATABASE ON QURAN

LGBT in the Quran

versión española » - version Française »
> 25 August 2019 - GALE added an article on sexual diversity in the Quran to the database. You can often get questions or comments from Muslim students about homosexuality in Islam. They generally claim that homosexuality is banned by the Quran. But if you continue to ask, they often do not know the statements and they get stuck in "it is just not allowed, it is haram" .
It is true that there are a number of passages in the Quran referring to the story of Sodom which seem to prohibit sex between men. But there is more to say about it.
