Call upon UK and other States to improve not-so-comprehensive sex education - October 12, 2017

12 October 2017 - The London activist Peter Thatchell has called upon the UK Education Minister and asked her to clarify why the introduction of compulsory "Comprehensive Sexual Education" (CSE) does not include attention to LGBT+ issues. GALE notes it is a worldwide trend that so-called "comprehensive" sex education is not comprehensive at all. GALE proposes to label such programs nsCSE (no-so Comprehensive).

The Philippines Ministry affirms SOGI rights in schools - July 20, 2017

20 July 2017 - On June 29, the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) issued a gender-responsive basic education policy that calls for an end to discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation and gender identity in schools. Human Rights Watch applauds the new policy but encourages the government to implement it adequately.

Nigerian researcher advises to challenge neo-colonial homophobia in universities - July 18, 2017

18 July 2017 - A Nigerian researcher, Kehinde Okanlawon, has published an article detailing the experiences of LGBT students in Nigerian universities. He recommends to develop education that explains why same-sex relations are not un-African, to redevelop development policies and to prosecute homophobic evangelicals.

China damages national image by restricting video's of homosexuality - July 07, 2017

7 July 2017 - The China Netcasting Services Association has released new strict regulations for online video platforms. According to reports, restrictions will be applied to content portraying what are considered abnormal sexual behaviours , including same-sex activity. The new restrictions are an expansion of the ban on TV drama that was initiated last year. This regulation banned showing abnormal sexual relationships and behaviors, such as incest, same-sex relationships, sexual perversion, sexual assault, sexual abuse and sexual violence .

New family equality guide - June 17, 2017

17 June 2017 - In 2016–2017, ten movement leaders and experts from the LGBTI, women’s rights and progressive faith movements charted the use of family in recent years of progressive activism. They engaged did a survey with more than 200 experts, organized a conference and had consultations with key organizations. The result was a guide which guide invites social justice activists in Europe to consider placing family equality at the centre of our progressive strategies, discourse and actions.

USA education secretary sees no problem when schools refuse LGBT students - May 25, 2017

25 May 2017 - The USA federal secretary of education Betsy DeVos has stated she sees no problem if USA States discriminate LGBTQ students. GALE considers downgrading the status of the USA from “ambiguous” to a “denying” State on the GALE World Map.

Japan includes protection LGBT students in anti-bullying guidelines - March 25, 2017

25 March 2017 - The new national bullying prevention policy of Japan will for the first time protect sexual and gender minority students. The measure will boost Japan’s reputation regionally and internationally on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights. NESET-II report recommends to integrate anti-homophobia in anti-bullying strategies - February 04, 2017

4 February 2017 - On 23 January, the second NESET report on bullying in Europe was presented at the European parliament. The report offers an extensive analysis of anti-bullying programs and strategies on both school, community and government levels. It also includes information and sensitivity to homophobia and to other selected groups that are commonly neglected in anti-bullying strategies. The report recommends to create national committees that guide a national comprehensive anti-bullying strategy and to systematically include attention for discrimination and homophobia. This article offers a summary and highlights the anti-homophobia aspects.

Brazil launches sexual diversity education award - February 02, 2017

2 February 2017 - The Brazilian organization “Dignidade” has founded an award for educational projects on sexual diversity. The Education Prize for Respect for Sexual Diversity aims to recognize, value and encourage the promotion of respect for sexual diversity in the educational environment in Brazil.The idea for the award developed by Dignidade in cooperation with GALE and is organized by the Brazilian Institute of Sexual Diversity – IBDSEX.

LGBTI movement concerned about government taking over safer schools program - January 01, 2017

1 January 2016 - The LGBTI movement of the Australian State Victoria have raised concerns over the state government’s recent decision to take over the Safe Schools program and critically review it. The concern is based on serious grounds because under political pressure to get rid of the positive content about LGBTI issues, the government has been very critical of the program this year.
