Call to sign LGBTIQ affirmation to feminist principles

>> 30 June 2021 - An international alliance of LGBTIQ organizations has drafted a “feminist affirmation letter” in which they affirm their belief that the fight against homophobia and transphobia is rooted in combating patriarchy and hetero sexism. GALE signed the declaration and adopted it as a lead for its gender policy. GALE heartily supports the call for other organizations to sign the affirmation letter.

Spanish teachers wear skirts to support boy student

>> 22 June 2021 - In May, male teachers from Spain in Euskadi wore skirts in school as a protest. In October 2020, a 15-year old student published a video in which he said he was kicked out of school and sent to a psychologist for wearing a skirt. The teachers wore the skirts to support the student.

Hungary censors education about sexual and gender diversity

>> 18 June 2021 - The Hungarian parliament has taken a new step towards marginalizing LGBTIQ people and to destroy the quality of education. They did this by adoption a new law that depends sharing content about homosexual orientation and sex reassignment with young people. The new law impacts educational programs, advertising and even popular television shows. As other countries have done more than a century ago, the Hungarian government links homosexuality with pedosexual seduction and rape.

New EU Strategy on the rights of the child complements the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy

>> 27 March 2021 - On 24 March, the European Commission published the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child. Protecting and promoting the rights of the child is a core objective of the EU and therefore, the strategy aims to “build the best possible life for children in the EU and across the globe.” It strongly complements the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020–2025, committing to clear actions to end intersex genital mutilation, tackle online bullying of LGBTI youth, and improve free movement for rainbow families.

RESOURCE: E-COURSE

European project prepares to launch e-course on gender for teen boys

> 19 April 2021 - Recently, the European Erasmus+ project “gender education of teen boys: a digital toolkit” published her first newsletter. The project announces that the digital toolkit will be accessible after the summer vacation. The project team is creating an online educational toolkit which will provide users with learning material and tools for the facilitation of a complete online course―including curriculum, lesson plans and study material―on gender education with focus on the educational needs of boys in the adolescent ages of 15 to 17 years old.
