The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) and lesbian-led groups in Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines are marking the confluence of 3 important eventsthe 16 Days of Activism Campaign to end violence against women, the international launches of the Yogyakarta Principles, and the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Three activities are proposed during the 16 Days of Activism campaign: create a banner, Gather video and stills footage of launches of the Yogyakarta Principles (YyP) in your countries and gather in Yogyakarta on December 10.

The objective of these study days is to gather researchers in all fields of social sciences researching across the areas of religion, familial relations, gender, and sexual transformations. The purpose is to analyze the ways individuals and institutions act and interact in face of such transformations, for example in mixed-race couples and intermarriage, and reconstituted, adoptive, single-parent, same-sex families etc. Abstracts for presentation of one page (approximately 2000 characters) should include the authors title, affiliation, name and address. How does a platform for political and social justice that is based on the queer singularity of the subject intersect with the plights of the economically disenfranchised and the struggle against discrimination based on gender, ethnicity and color? What definitions and shared assumptions on class formation, racial and ethno-national belonging and segregation inform gender and sexual classifications alongside the spectrum of Latin American and Latino societies and cultures? How have these sources of inequality imprinted the discourses of intellectuals, media, social movements, minority politics and State policy, promotingas well as opposingan agenda for sexual rights? Panel proposals that involve a range of contributions from the social sciences and the humanities are most welcome. Topics are not limited, but should focus on sexualities in China from historical, social, cultural and political perspectives. Colombia University, USA. HRAP is designed to prepare proven human rights leaders from the Global South and marginalized communities in the U.S. to participate in national and international policy debates on globalization by building their skills, knowledge, and contacts. The Program features a four-month residency at Columbia University in New York City with a structured curriculum of advocacy, networking, skills-building, and academic coursework. Participants are selected on the basis of their previous work experience on human rights and globalization, commitment to the human rights field, and demonstrated ability to complete graduate-level studies. Advocates must originate from and reside in either the Global South or the United States. Fluency in English is required. Advocate s must secure institutional endorsement from their organizations for their participation in the Program and must commit to returning to that organization upon completion of the Program. If accepted, they must also commit to participating in the program fully. This extremely competitive Program will admit approximately six participants. We make every effort to provide full fellowships to cover program costs as well as travel and living expenses for selected Advocates each year.
