Your credit: EDU edu

How to earn edus

Membership of the Alliance is not free. Like most other professional associations, members pay a membership fee.

However, because many of our members don't have much money and because international transfer of money is still bureaucratic and costly, the GALE board decided to introduce a system which enables members to pay their membership fee in kind.

Every member has a credit account. You can check your credit on this page and in your profile. The GALE virtual credit is called "edu". One edu is about 1 US Dollar.

You can earn edus by doing jobs for the Alliance. In the table below, you will find a list of standard jobs and the standard fee for them.

The standard jobs to consider are writing news items or articles for the database, editing articles submitted by others and translating them in English, French or Spanish. Other jobs could be for example taking part in a Working Group or being a website moderator. When you are looking for a job to do, you can do 3 things:

  1. Submit news or another kind of article, using the format in the right menu.
  2. Browse the Articles (left menu) for articles that need editing or translation, contact the moderator for permission to do the job.
  3. When you write or edit, please use the suggestions for editing!
  4. Look at the overview of GALE positions, check which ones are open and have your interest and make contact with the Group Volunteer Manager.

On every page, the contact person of a group or moderator of a page is listed. Contact this person to agree if you can do this task. After his or her permission, do the job and inform the moderator/contact person. He or she will then transfer the agreed edus into your account.

If you don't understand the system, or have a comment on how to improve its functioning, don't hesitate to ask your questions or give your feedback to one of the moderators!
