Mainstreaming LGBT Education
Our ideal is to make positive and effective attention for LGBT issues an integral and structural part of the regular training of professionals. This is what we call mainstreaming.
Training institutes in most countries are not ready for this, so a lot of work needs to be done. Mainstreaming is not just a question of carrying out training! Educators first need to get access and a working relationship with mainstream institutes. After that, training can be done. After the training, follow-up is needed by coaching the professionals in the implementation on what they have learned. Often, the mainstream institutes need to adapt their employment and service policies to deal properly with the diversity of their employees, clients and customers.
In this overview section, we offer articles with basic information about these issues and give references for further study.
